Reflections on my first year at The Goodness Web
Dear friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,
This past month marked my one-year anniversary as the inaugural CEO of The Goodness Web. It has been a whirlwind of learning, always guided by the question: How can we get better? Better means a number of things to me: better at driving change in youth mental health; better at sharpening our impact and communicating it to donors; better at building the unique community that is The Web.
I believe deeply that listening is key to getting better. So rather than taking a victory lap touting our progress over the year (there’s been a lot, and I do that every month!), I’m going to share some of the big questions I’m grappling with and invite you to reach out if you have thoughts on any. I’m kicking off Year Two eager to keep accelerating our progress!
Events and Learning Opportunities
As The Goodness Web grows, we are expanding the ways we can learn together and connect. Please mark your calendars for the following:
Insider Briefing with Rob Morris from Newest TGW Grantee, Koko. We are committed to ensuring you can learn directly from our grantees who are leading cutting-edge work with young people. In this month’s Insider Briefing, Celine will interview Rob Morris, Co-founder & CEO of Koko, TGW's newest grantee partner. Koko’s mission is to help end the youth mental health crisis by reaching young people where they are, on the platforms they already use. They’ve partnered with major digital/social media platforms to integrate their tools, allowing them to meet young people in their moment of need. This Insider Briefing will go live on July 1.

Youth Advisory Council, Coming Soon. This fall, The Goodness Web will launch our first Youth Advisory Council to help us bring the perspective and voice of a diverse set of young people into our work. Applications will be available starting in July. Please let us know if there is a young person in your life who should receive one.
One Mind Music Festival, September 13. The Goodness Web grantee partner One Mind is hosting their 31st annual music festival/vineyard tour/learning event. If you are interested in attending, please let Celine (celine.coggins@thegoodnessweb.org) know so we can arrange a meetup of TGW families!
Boston Salon, September 24. Boston-area donors: please consider joining us for refreshments and light bites at Row 34 in the Seaport on September 24. Please let us know if you have suggestions for families who should join us and consider becoming part of the Web!
DMV Salon, October 8. Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia-area donors: please consider joining us for a cocktail reception at the Annapolis Yacht Club on October 8. Please let us know if you have suggestions for families who should join us and consider becoming part of the Web!
Grantee Spotlight
TGW is proud to support these organizations, among others, with major grants.
Path Forward’s impressive Milliman study was recently spotlighted in Behavioral Health Business, showing explosive growth in the Collaborative Care Model — with some areas seeing a 22x increase. Throughout the U.S., committed clinicians and enterprising start-ups are proving what's possible when mental health is fully integrated into primary care.
The Jed Foundation just released an insightful statement on the impact of AI technologies on youth mental health. We wholeheartedly agree that “we believe AI must be developed and deployed in ways that enhance youth mental health, not undermine it. Young people must not be left to navigate these systems without the appropriate tools, support, and developmental readiness. We are committed to ensuring that AI does not deepen isolation, distort reality, or cause harm, but instead serves as a tool to strengthen connection, care, and resilience.”
Inseparable launched their “Medicaid is Mental Health” campaign to communicate with key members of Congress the inextricable relationship between Medicaid and mental health. As we know, most mental health challenges start young — before age 24 — and kids today are facing more mental health challenges than ever. Two in five kids rely on Medicaid to get the care they need, and Medicaid therefore helps millions of young people get care early, stay in school, land jobs, and build their lives.
Dr. Stuart Ablon, Founder & Director of Think:Kids, was recently featured on an episode of Aura’s Light Within podcast. Per the Aura team, “this episode is packed with simple, powerful strategies to solve problems effectively. You’ll see what’s really going on beneath the surface of challenging behavior— and how to respond in a way that actually works.”
