For Grantseekers

Unfortunately, due to the volume of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to outreach from every organization. We sincerely appreciate your effort and interest, and we assure you that your inquiry will be thoroughly and thoughtfully considered. We look forward to reaching back out to organizations that most closely align with our grantmaking priorities, detailed on this page.

Our Grant Review Process

The Goodness Web seeks to accelerate the most promising mental health initiatives to dramatically improve the lives of young people and their caregivers through innovative approaches, systems-changing strategies, and promising interventions. Our goal is to find leaders, organizations, and initiatives with transformational approaches and to partner and drive impact.

Informed by our investment-like approach, we find exceptional entrepreneurs, provide them with multiyear, unrestricted funding – from $200,000 to $3,000,000 – and provide ongoing support for the grant period (sometimes by holding a board or advisory seat as appropriate) and partnering with the leader to help build capacity in their organization and scale their impact.

Our process consists of proactively seeking out promising and compelling grantees and solutions, many of which are sourced through our community of donors and partners. That said, we are always eager to be introduced to new opportunities.

TGW prioritizes funding nonprofit organizations operating in the United States that:
  • Aim to improve mental health for youth at the systems-change level.
  • Have demonstrated proven, measurable results in their area of intended impact.
  • Plan to scale their impact to achieve their mission.
Generally, TGW does not fund:
  • Idea or pilot-stage organizations.
  • The organization is under 2 years old.
  • The program, product, or service is not yet operational in the field.
  • There is not yet a significant body of evidence to demonstrate that the model is having its intended impact.
  • Organizations with an annual budget of under $1,000,000 or over $20,000,000.
  • Organizations whose primary focus is the development of research.
  • US 501 (C)(4) organizations.

Our Investment Thesis

Transforming youth mental health at a systems level requires a focus on:

PREVENTION and early intervention

90% of philanthropic dollars go to treatment and crisis intervention. Prevention and early intervention are a high-leverage use of philanthropic dollars, equipping more youth, especially disadvantaged youth, with skills and practices that support mental wellness.

POLICY and coalition-building

The large-scale change we seek requires catalytic philanthropic investment and an equity-driven approach to ensure more young people can gain access to evidence-based solutions and to drive state and federal resources to youth mental health.

PEOPLE and access to care

Of the 20% of people who reported a mental health condition in the past year, more than 2 out of 3 did not receive treatment.10 As demand for mental health services has increased, the shortage of trained behavioral health workers at all levels has grown, especially for youth.
