Looking ahead to an exciting fall at TGW!
Dear friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,
We hope everyone reading this is enjoying the waning days of summer in a way that is special to you and yours. Through the magic of technology, this month’s newsletter is arriving in your inbox as I sit on a beach in Italy! At TGW, this summer has been a busy time of planning for a few big events this fall. I want to offer a fall preview today as an invitation for you to join us as often as you can. In September, we’ll be holding our semi-annual Investment Advisory Group meeting; in October, we’ll hold our second *annual* national retreat; in November, at a salon in Houston, we will release The Mental Health Crisis Playbook for families navigating a mental health crisis. Events and Learning Opportunities
As The Goodness Web grows, we are expanding the ways we can learn together and connect. Please mark your calendars for the following:
Investment Advisory Group, September 10. Next virtual meeting on Thursday, September 10th at 12:00 pm ET. TGW donors are invited to join us for a two-way conversation. We will share some of the potential grantees we are researching and also ask for your feedback on the youth mental health issues that interest you, the nonprofits you suggest we look into, and which of the grantees in our pipeline excite you most.
- Please reach out to Jessie Shaw (jessie.shaw@thegoodnessweb.org) to secure your spot.
Second Annual Ambassador Retreat, October 5-6. TGW donors are invited to Chicago October 5-6 to strategize with us about building our community and driving greater resources toward youth mental health. The event will be structured to include time for deeper learning on mental health philanthropy, reflecting on our collective role in advancing the field, and celebrating our progress.
- Please indicate your interest here if you would like to join us then. Please reach out to Celine Coggins (celine.coggins@thegoodnessweb.org) with any questions.
We also invite your participation in the following:
TGW Mental Health Crisis Playbook. We are working to build a playbook for families experiencing a mental health crisis with a loved one. We know our network has much collective wisdom. If you would be interested in participating in a confidential interview about your experience or sharing ideas for the shape of the project, please contact Jessie Shaw (jessie.shaw@thegoodnessweb.org). All names and specifics will be kept confidential.
Host a Discussion with The Rithm Project. Consider hosting a dinner or gathering in your community featuring TGW’s newest grantee, The Rithm Project, to explore top-of-mind topics like AI chatbots and therapy and young people. Please contact Jessie Shaw (jessie.shaw@thegoodnessweb.org) to express your interest and learn more.
Grantee Spotlight
TGW is proud to support these organizations, among others, with major grants.
The Jed Foundation (JED) and Surgo Health recently released new research exploring how and why young people are turning to AI for mental health support. Based on a survey of more than 1,300 young people ages 13-24, the findings show that many turn to AI when other sources of support feel out of reach, with 65% of AI users reporting they had no one they trusted to confide in. The research underscores the need for accessible, human-centered systems of care, and for AI tools that help connect young people to trusted support, rather than replace it.
Young Futures recently brought together the 16 organizations in its Oops!... AI Did It Again cohort for the Young Futures Innovator Showcase, highlighting new approaches to helping young people build confidence, connection, and agency in an AI-driven world. Through this challenge, the cohort is exploring how AI intersects with learning, work, creativity, mental health, relationships, and more, with a focus on ensuring young people have a meaningful voice in shaping the technologies that affect their lives.
Our Minds Matter (OMM) recently released its 2030 Strategic Plan, charting a path to reach 500,000 teens annually through a thoughtful, phased national expansion of its teen-led mental health model. Building on its school and district partnerships, growing evidence base, and commitment to putting young people at the center of the work, OMM aims to bring its approach to communities across the country. The Goodness Web is proud to serve as OMM’s first strategic partner in this next phase of growth, supporting the organization as it works to dramatically expand its reach and impact.
