Looking ahead to an exciting fall at TGW!
We hope everyone reading this is enjoying the waning days of summer in a way that is special to you and yours. Through the magic of technology, this month’s newsletter is arriving in your inbox as I sit on a beach in Italy! At TGW, this summer has been a busy time of planning for a few big events this fall. I want to offer a fall preview today as an invitation for you to join us as often as you can. In September, we’ll be holding our semi-annual Investment Advisory Group meeting; in October, we’ll hold our second *annual* national retreat; in November, at a salon in Houston, we will release The Mental Health Crisis Playbook for families navigating a mental health crisis.
Behind the scenes: What can you expect at an Investment Advisory Group (IAG) meeting?
All donors are invited to IAG meetings. We launched these last year and have refined the structure over time. On a one-hour online Zoom, you’ll learn about nonprofits in our pipeline and let us know the degree to which they interest you and the questions you’d like to see answered as they move through diligence. We allocate time for all donors to share ideas for other nonprofits we should add to our pipeline.
Investment Advisory Group meeting: September 10th at 12:00 pm ET
Behind the scenes: What can you expect at the TGW National Retreat?
The national retreat is TGW’s signature in-person annual event. Our first was an inspiration to our team and our founders. It realized a long-standing vision to bring together families and field experts to join forces in transforming youth mental health.
Our objectives over the 1.5-day event are:
- Learn from our grantees. Topics include trends and progress in:
- Digital mental health
- School-based mental health
- Mental health policy, including collaborative care and parity for mental health
- Growing the labor force
- Connect with others in our donor community and explore ways of working together
- A session on strategic philanthropy, exploring the highest-leverage opportunities in mental health and how to maximize your impact as a giver.
TGW National Retreat: October 5-6
Behind the scenes: What can you expect from The Mental Health Crisis Playbook?
Thanks to interviews with so many of you in this community, we are nearing completion of the playbook, which will also be available in a digital format. Built with the insights of families who have navigated the mental health system themselves, the playbook is designed to be the essential guide caregivers wish they had when they first found themselves searching for help. It will offer practical guidance at every stage:
What questions should I be asking? What do I say to my child—or to a provider? How do I know what to do next? And how do I plan for the future
when getting through today feels all-consuming? So many of you have helped make this resource possible, and we are excited to imagine a future in which families across the country can access trusted, practical guidance when they need it most.
