Celebrating Our First National Retreat

 

Dear trusted friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,

 

A few weeks ago, The Goodness Web held its first national retreat. It was an opportunity for our donors and grantees to come together and help us build toward our next stage. It was incredibly gratifying to have nearly 60 donors from 13 states say yes to joining us. We extended just over 100 invitations for this initial pilot and, based on the positive response, we now plan to offer it to a larger crowd next year. Stay tuned!

Welcoming The Goodness Web's New Chief Operating Officer, Elizabeth Binder

 

Elizabeth Binder has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Goodness Web (TGW). In this role, Binder will focus on operations, finance, and grantmaking strategy.

Binder brings over 15 years of social sector leadership and experience to TGW. Prior to joining TGW, she was a partner at The Bridgespan Group, a global nonprofit consultancy, where she advised social sector leaders on strategy, grantmaking, and operations. In that role, she worked with a broad range of organizations, including philanthropic collaboratives, foundations, and NGOs. Before she joined Bridgespan, Binder spent five years at Bain & Company, working primarily with Fortune 500 companies.

Binder has had a passion for and commitment to improving youth mental health throughout her career. She believes that transforming mental health for young people is one of the most important issues our society faces and has worked extensively with leading organizations in the field.

Announcing Our First Renewal Grant: Inseparable, Inc.

 

Based on their impressive track record of successfully shaping mental health legislation and driving hundreds of millions of dollars to youth mental health in states across the country, The Goodness Web is proud to award Inseparable, Inc. our first-ever "renewal grant" to an existing grantee partner at the end of their first grant period. This new award is a one-year, $400,000 grant to continue to support their widespread impact.

 

We cannot wait to see the great work Inseparable will continue to do for families across the country!

Webinar with Path Forward, Choppy Waters in Washington: What's Next for Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder Policy?, April 30. Join one of TGW's inaugural grantee partners, Path Forward, on Wednesday, April 30 1:00–1:45 pm ET for a confidential, philanthropist-only discussion/Q&A with the nation’s top policy leaders, moderated by TGW's CEO Celine Coggins.

 

 

Investment Advisory Group, June 18. First virtual meeting on Wednesday, June 18th at 12:00 pm ET. TGW donors are invited to join us for a two-way conversation. We will share some of the possible grantees we are researching and also get your feedback on the youth mental health issues that interest you, the nonprofits you suggest we look into, and which of the grantees in our pipeline excite you most.

Inseparable’s 2025 School Mental Health Report Card remains an impressive annual summary of states’ progress in adopting policies that strengthen and improve school-based mental health services for our youth. Read on to learn how your state fared!

 

Young Futures, in partnership with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, just launched their Here Comes the Fun Challenge, a $1M funding initiative designed to promote the wellbeing of pre-teens and teens through playful digital experiences. Learn more and share with eligible nonprofits in your network!

 

The Jed Foundation  shared an informative summary of recent studies that emphasize implementation of the Collaborative Care Model in primary care offices and across health systems broadly. As we at TGW know, integrated, accessible mental healthcare "effectively [reduces] suicidal thoughts and attempts," and therefore saves lives.

 

Think:Kids’ Founder & Director Dr. Stuart Ablon joined CBS Mornings to discuss cell phone bans in schools. While we know that technology in general is here to stay, following research and guidance on age-appropriate technology use is key to promoting the wellbeing of students, teachers, and families alike.

Binder has had a passion for and commitment to improving youth mental health throughout her career. She believes that transforming mental health for young people is one of the most important issues our society faces and has worked extensively with leading organizations in the field. Binder holds an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where she also earned a Certificate in Public Management. As an undergraduate, she studied commerce and psychology at the University of Virginia. The Goodness Web (TGW) connects a diverse community of results-oriented donors who pool their resources to accelerate the most promising mental health initiatives with the goal of improving the lives of youth and those who care for them. In just a few years since its launch, TGW has raised over $18M to grant to nonprofits capable of driving systems change and increasing access to support across the adolescent mental health ecosystem. TGW will award $4M in new grants in 2025. TGW was founded by Jan and Rob Swartz and Mark and Gina Verdi. “Elizabeth has dedicated her career to helping organizations build and execute on strategies to tackle social issues at scale. She brings the strategic and operational skillset we need to continue to grow our impact,” said TGW Co-Founder and Board Chair Mark Verdi. “Elizabeth’s experience in business, strategy, and philanthropy, combined with her passion for supporting youth mental health, is exactly what we need to help TGW expand into its next chapter. I am excited to partner with her to accelerate our growth and impact,” added TGW CEO Celine Coggins.  Of her new role, Elizabeth reflected, “I believe deeply in The Goodness Web’s mission to address the youth mental health crisis. I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to build on the incredible work that The Goodness Web has already done.”
