CEO Corner with Dr. Celine Coggins
Holding optimism and caution on the next stage of mental health advances
Dear friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,
I had the opportunity to attend a series of different meetings last week that blew my mind on a few fronts. Advances in brain science and AI are accelerating mental health progress at unprecedented rates, but we need to work to mitigate risks as well.
Events and Learning Opportunities
As The Goodness Web grows, we are expanding the ways we can learn together and connect. Please mark your calendars for the following:
DMV Salon, October 8. Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia-area donors: please consider joining us for a cocktail reception at the Annapolis Yacht Club on October 8. Please let us know if you have suggestions for families who should join us and consider becoming part of the Web!
Co-Founder Jan Swartz and CEO Celine Coggins featured speakers in upcoming webinar, October 14. Join TGW co-founder Jan Swartz and CEO Celine Coggins for a virtual fireside chat highlighting Jan’s corporate and nonprofit leadership journey, moderated by Celine. As shared by the webinar hosts at the ACC Foundation, “through the innovative model of The Goodness Web, [Jan] is reimagining philanthropy offering hope, healing, and driving real and lasting solutions.” We hope to see you there!

Youth Advisory Council, Application Due Today. We are excited to announce that The Goodness Web is building a Youth Advisory Council to ensure that young people are a part of all dimensions of our work.
- The council will meet 6 times between fall 2025 and spring 2026 to help us shape our agenda for youth engagement and help us test and gain feedback on possible paths.
- The council will be an opportunity for you to make a meaningful contribution to our organizational strategy, evolution, and impact.
- The council will provide an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of young people on how to make transformative improvements in mental health support, prevention, and policy.
We invite individuals between the ages of 18 and 23 to apply by today, September 30. Please click here to access the application, and please share widely with the passionate young people/parents of young people in your life!
Grantee Spotlight
TGW is proud to support these organizations, among others, with major grants.
Young Futures
launched their YF500, a is a first-of-its-kind, five-year, $50 million philanthropic index fund dedicated to building a robust ecosystem to support youth wellbeing in a tech-driven world. The model combines direct funding with deep capacity building and community through the YF Academy, a five-month accelerator offering expert coaching in fundraising, storytelling, and scaling for sustainable growth. The fund will deploy capital through a series of national challenges and rapid response rounds, starting in October 2025 with the "Oops!.. AI Did It Again" challenge focused on AI and youth wellbeing — more information on that challenge coming soon!
Path Forward, in partnership with the Employee Benefit Research Institute, released the 2025 Employee Mental Health Survey, offering one of the most comprehensive looks to date at how workers with employer-sponsored insurance experience the mental health system. Survey results include that 1 in 4 workers (27%) reported that they or a covered family member has a mental health condition, and that 1 in 3 of those individuals could not access needed mental health services or prescriptions in the past six months. Even more concerningly, compared to individuals not reporting mental health conditions, those individuals who reported mental health conditions (themselves or a family member) were 2X as likely to report not being able to get health care they or a doctor deemed necessary, and yet more likely to be proactive — comparing prices, reviewing provider quality, and speaking with clinicians — for both mental health and physical health. We are grateful to the Path Forward team for their insightful work.
The Institute for Youth Mental Health, a new partnership between America’s Promise Alliance (APA) and The Jed Foundation (JED), released a press release celebrating its formal launch. Led by APA (a network of over 150 community-based organizations serving over 30 million young people in after school and summer programs) and JED (the nation’s leading suicide prevention program for youth and young adults), this initiative aims to embed mental health supports into the places where teens and young adults already spend their time, hold trusting relationships, and feel a sense of safety and belonging. We are proud to support this meaningful partnership!
