My Mantra for 2025: Will You Join Me in It?

Dear trusted friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,

The highlight of 2024 for us here at The Goodness Web was our event with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. As he concluded his tenure earlier this month, he shared his parting prescription for a healthier nation, writing, “After years of reflecting on the stories I have heard, delving into scientific data, and convening researchers, I have come to see there are three essential elements that fuel our fulfillment and well-being: relationships, service, and purpose.”

Relationships, service, and purpose.

In my work life and my personal life, I’m going to try to use those words as guiding principles for the year ahead. Relationships, service and purpose are some of the core reasons I came to The Goodness Web.

I was inspired by the story of our founders, most of whom met in business school, remained friends for decades, and came together around their shared desire to accelerate progress on the youth mental health crisis. For them, relationships, purpose, and service are intertwined in our mission. I have the privilege of observing, daily, how the trust forged in those long-term relationships aids our decision-making as a team. When we talk to other families about joining TGW, I hear them reference things they valued about this collaborative model of philanthropy we’re building. Sentences like, “As we’ve become empty nesters, this is something meaningful that I am doing with my spouse,” Or “It is rare to build new friendships as an adult male, but I’m making new, close friends through TGW.”

Relationships, service, and purpose are key ingredients to the well-being of the young people we seek to serve. They are also necessary for all of us.

This spring, we are hosting our first national retreat for families and individuals who want to go deeper with TGW on the themes of relationships, service, and purpose. TGW has grown rapidly thanks to generous families across the country who have helped us expand the Web and our collective giving capacity by hosting salons and bringing our work to their networks. In 2025, we are seeking to rapidly grow our ability to drive resources to youth mental health. We are inviting our Accelerator-level families and individuals to strategize with us about building our community and further impacting this issue. The event will be structured to include time for deeper learning on mental health philanthropy, reflecting on our collective role in advancing the field, and celebrating our progress. We hope you’ll consider joining us in Boston.

Relationships, service, and purpose. This can be your 2025 mantra too.
